Everything people ask before they book
If you are renting a dumpster for the first time, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the City will mind, and what you cannot throw in. Whether you are cleaning out a home, remodeling a kitchen or managing a job site in the Lakewood area, the answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (720) 370-8548 — a real person on our local team will answer it.
Part 1
Pricing
How much does a dumpster rental cost in Lakewood, CO?
Dumpster rental pricing typically ranges from about $350 to $750 depending on the dumpster size, the type of material, the delivery location and the rental length, with no hidden fees. You get a flat rate up front that includes delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and the included weight — about 1 to 2 tons on a 10 yard, 2 to 3 on a 15, 3 to 4 on a 20, 4 to 5 on a 30 and 5 to 6 on a 40. Going over can cost extra. The cost guide breaks it down.
Is delivery and pickup included in the price?
Yes. Our flat-rate pricing includes delivery, pickup, disposal up to the included weight and the standard rental period. No hidden fees and no surprise charges.
What causes extra charges?
Two things: going over the included weight, when an additional fee may apply based on weight, and keeping the container past the rental period, at an additional fee. Loading above the top edge can also add charges. We explain all pricing and weight guidelines up front so there is nothing to find later.
Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or dirt?
Heavy material such as concrete, dirt or brick uses up the included weight fast, and it is typically limited to 10 or 15 yard containers because of weight restrictions. So we size heavy loads differently and tell you where the weight line is before you load.
What payment methods do you accept?
Major credit and debit cards. Payment is processed at the time of booking to secure your delivery date. Where an independent provider handles the rental, billing may be handled by that provider, and we tell you on the call.
Part 2
Sizing
What size dumpster do I need?
A 10 or 15 for small cleanups, roofing and heavy material like concrete and dirt; a 20 for remodeling and landscaping projects; a 30 or 40 for construction, demolition and large-scale cleanouts. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.
What happens if I order too small?
You may need an extra haul — and too large means paying for unused space. When in doubt, describe the job and let us size it. If your needs change during the rental, we can swap the dumpster.
What is the biggest dumpster you offer?
A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 7.5 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, about 5–6 tons included. It is our largest roll-off container.
How full can I fill it?
Do not load above the top edge of the container. Keeping debris level ensures safe transport and avoids additional charges. Spread the weight evenly too.
Can I rent a dumpster for a roofing job?
Yes. Our 10 and 20 yard dumpsters are commonly used for roofing — shingles, underlayment and roofing debris — and shingles are heavy, so tell us the approximate roof size and we will recommend the box around the weight.
Part 3
Permits, placement and town rules
Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?
On private property such as your own driveway we found no Lakewood permit rule for a roll-off — the City's permit is for the public right-of-way. Keep it on an improved all-weather surface, not the grass: Lakewood wants commercial-type dumpsters on private property, on gravel, asphalt or concrete paving, clear of vehicle and pedestrian travel and the sight triangle (§8.14.025(D)), and does not allow them on landscaping or grass (§9.80.020(B)(5)). A street is different. Lakewood says a no-charge public way permit must be obtained before a temporary roll-off is placed in the right-of-way, and it may not stay more than 30 days unless due cause for an extension is shown (§8.14.028). Apply through the City's eTRAKiT system; the Public Works Permit Counter is at 303-987-7500. The permit guide and your town page cover the details.
Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?
In Lakewood, with the no-charge Public Way permit — and the City's permit sheet says street placement is only allowed if there is no suitable location on the private property, so the driveway or another spot on the lot comes first. On state highways such as West Colfax (US-40), Sheridan Boulevard (SH-95), Wadsworth Boulevard (SH-121) and US-6, work in the right-of-way needs a state and a City permit (§12.04.040(A)), and we found no CDOT permit path for a temporary container, so the container stays on the property. Elsewhere: Denver issues its street permit only to the container company, at $125 for the first five days of a one-time residential placement and $4.50 a day after; unincorporated Jefferson County charges $50, in the parking lane and never on arterials; Edgewater issues a police permit for ten days and never allows dumpsters in alleys (§11-1-40); Wheat Ridge requires a Class D licence to occupy the public way with storage containers or trash receptacles (§21-21); and Golden wants NO PARK signs posted 24 hours ahead. Tell us when you book and we plan the placement around it.
Is my street a City street or a state highway?
Not always obvious. West Colfax (US-40), a block from our yard, Sheridan Boulevard (SH-95), Wadsworth Boulevard (SH-121) and US-6 are state highways; Kendall Street itself is not. State highways need CDOT as well as the City; other Lakewood streets fall under the Lakewood Municipal Code. If you are not sure, tell us the address and we will check which rules apply.
Why do some of your town pages mention hauler licences?
Because most cities here license the companies that haul waste. Lakewood requires a Waste Hauler License (Ch. 5.29, rewritten by Ordinance O-2026-30 on August 24, 2026), and its new definition of solid waste includes construction and demolition debris and bulky items. Denver (DRMC 48-62), Englewood (EMC 5-26), Sheridan (§22-217), Westminster (§5-7-2), Edgewater (§6-8-20), Arvada (§90-51) and Golden (§4.80.015) have their own. We found no exclusive roll-off franchise anywhere we serve, and no hauler licence in unincorporated Jefferson County. Each town page states its rule.
Does my HOA matter?
It can. Covenants can cover containers on your driveway, and we do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We take care during placement to minimize any risk. For additional protection, you can place boards or plywood under the dumpster. Tell us before delivery if a surface needs more than that — and keep it off soft ground and grass.
How much space does the truck need?
A flat, stable surface such as a driveway or paved area; room for the container — about 14 feet long for a 10 yard, 16 feet for a 15, and about 22 feet for a 20 and up, all about 7.5 feet wide; about 60 feet of space for truck access; and at least 25 feet of overhead clearance. Power lines, tree branches, parked cars, bins and equipment are the usual problems.
Part 4
Booking and delivery
How do I book a dumpster?
Call (720) 370-8548. Tell us the address, what is going in and roughly how much, and we quote it flat and schedule it on the same call.
How fast can you deliver?
Same-day or next-day in many areas, depending on availability. For the best chance of same-day, call early in the day.
What are your hours?
The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Near homes, deliveries and pickups run Monday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., outside the holidays Lakewood lists (§9.52.130).
How long can I keep the dumpster?
Most rentals include a standard rental period, typically 3 to 7 days. If you need more time, call and we extend it for an additional fee — contractors on long job sites and homeowners on multi-week renovations do it all the time. If you finish early, call and we arrange an early pickup. On a Lakewood street the Public Way permit allows 30 days unless the City extends it, and your HOA may have its own limit.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. As long as we have clear placement instructions and the area is accessible and free of obstacles, you do not need to be present. Same for pickup.
Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?
Yes. Several dumpsters at once, staggered deliveries and scheduled rotations are routine for contractors and property managers.
Part 5
Service area
What towns do you serve?
Lakewood, Edgewater, Wheat Ridge, Applewood and west Denver; Golden, Morrison, Arvada and Westminster; and Sheridan, Englewood, Bow Mar, Littleton, Columbine and Ken Caryl — each with its own page. The complete Lakewood guide pulls it together.
Where are you based?
At 1510 Kendall St, Lakewood, CO 80214 — inside Lakewood city limits, in Jefferson County, about a block off West Colfax.
Is service different in the far towns?
Mostly the timing. Ken Caryl, our furthest stop, is about 14 road miles from the yard, and Morrison, Littleton and Columbine about 13. Price depends partly on the delivery location, and we say any difference up front.
Is Columbine the same as Columbine Valley?
No. Columbine is an unincorporated community, mostly in Jefferson County with a small part in Arapahoe County, and that is the area we serve. Columbine Valley is a separate incorporated town whose code makes the Town the sole agency for waste collection (§8.16.030), so it is not part of our service area.
Do some places restrict who can deliver a roll-off?
Yes, through licences rather than franchises. Westminster's collector license names roll-off dumpsters outright (§5-7-8(C)), Edgewater licenses every refuse hauler (§6-8-20), and Denver issues its street dumpster permit only to a container company holding a ROW Dumpster License number. In Westminster, a dumpster of one cubic yard or larger at a one- or two-family home also needs written authorization from a code enforcement officer unless there is a valid building permit (§8-1-5). Each town page says what that code says.
Part 6
What we take
What can I put in a dumpster?
Most non-hazardous materials: wood, drywall, tile and flooring, furniture and household junk, yard debris such as branches and clippings, roofing materials like shingles, small appliances, and renovation and construction debris — plus concrete, brick, dirt and asphalt within the weight limit, in a 10 or 15.
What can't go in a dumpster?
Paint, solvents and oils, tires, batteries, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste and asbestos stay out, and so do electronics and appliances that still hold refrigerant. Colorado says a person shall not dispose of an electronic device in a landfill (C.R.S. 25-17-303), prohibits land disposal of residentially generated lead-acid batteries and used oil (C.R.S. 30-20-1002, 30-20-1005), and sends waste tires to tire collectors and processors (C.R.S. 30-20-1414). If you are unsure about an item, call before loading. The what can and cannot go in guide says where each of those goes instead.
Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?
No. Colorado requires an inspection by a Colorado-certified asbestos inspector and a CDPHE demolition notice ten working days before any demolition, even if no asbestos is found — homes included (Regulation 8). Asbestos waste must go to an approved asbestos disposal site regardless of quantity, and concrete or wood contaminated with it cannot be recycled. It never goes in a roll-off.
Can I put concrete, brick or dirt in a regular dumpster?
Yes, but heavy materials like concrete or dirt are typically limited to smaller dumpsters such as 10 or 15 yard bins because of weight restrictions. On a Lakewood building or demolition permit, asphalt and concrete are on the City's list of materials to recycle (§14.02.040(J)), so a clean, separate load also makes the paperwork easier.
Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?
Mattresses, yes — we found no Colorado rule naming them. Small appliances, usually yes. Fridges, freezers and A/C units only once the refrigerant has been properly removed, because federal EPA rules require it to be recovered (40 CFR 82.155). Our junk removal crew can take appliances with proper preparation.
What happens to the debris after pickup?
It goes to a state-approved landfill or an approved transfer facility, as Lakewood's code requires (§8.14.040), with metal, concrete, cardboard and yard debris recycled through local Colorado facilities whenever possible. If your permit needs weight tickets, tell us when you book.
