Lakewood, CO Dumpster Rental: The Complete Guide

Why rent a dumpster?

Whether you are remodeling a kitchen, clearing out a garage, running a construction job or cleaning up after a storm, a roll-off puts all the debris in one place instead of trip after trip to a disposal site. The payoff is a cleaner, safer property, fewer disposal runs and one flat-rate cleanup instead of a pile of small bills. In Lakewood it matters more than most places: the City runs no trash service and no bulky pickup, and Code Enforcement does not allow outside storage of waste building materials. Remodels make more debris than people expect — drywall, cabinets, flooring and fixtures do not fit in a cart — and roof tear-offs, estate cleanouts, landscaping and demolition fill a box quicker than a trailer.

How a roll-off rental works

You call, tell us about the job and the address, and choose a size with our help. You get a flat-rate quote that includes delivery, pickup and disposal and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. We deliver to your driveway, job site, commercial property or parking area — often the same or next day, depending on availability. You fill it with approved debris, keeping it below the top edge, and when you are done you call us and we pick it up. You do not need to be home for delivery or pickup, as long as we have clear placement instructions and the area is accessible and free of obstacles.

Our yard is at 1510 Kendall St, inside Lakewood city limits in Jefferson County and about a block off West Colfax, according to the US Census geocoder. Lakewood had 155,984 people at the 2020 Census, and Jefferson County had 582,910.

Choosing a size

Start with the job, then check the weight. A 10 yard, about 14 feet long, suits small remodels, roofing and heavy material such as concrete and dirt. A 15, about 16 feet, suits garage cleanouts, flooring and yard debris. The 20, 30 and 40 share a footprint of about 22 feet and get taller: the 20 for renovations, roofing and landscaping — the all-purpose pick; the 30 for whole-home cleanouts and large remodels; the 40 for construction, demolition and commercial jobs. All are about 7.5 feet wide. Weight allowances typically run from 1–2 tons on a 10 up to 5–6 tons on a 40. The sizing guide has the full table.

What the City handles, and what it does not

"Lakewood does not contract with haulers on behalf of residents nor does the city directly provide these services as a utility." Residents, business owners and property managers set up their own service, checking first with their HOA. Free curbside recycling under Colorado's packaging program is expected to roll out from winter 2026–2027, but it funds residential recycling only — not trash, construction debris or roll-offs. There is no City bulky pickup: bulky items "can be picked up for a fee by your waste hauler or junk removal company", and dumping bulky waste in alleys or on private property is illegal. The free Quail Street Recycling Center takes sorted cardboard, scrap metal, cans, paper, glass and plastic bottles, but no trailers, and Lakewood households get one free woody debris visit to the County's Tincup Ridge slash yard in season.

Some items need their own route. Paint, chemicals and pesticides go to the Rooney Road Recycling Center in Golden, run by nine local governments including Lakewood and unincorporated Jefferson County, by appointment on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. And the City reminds residents: "By law, electronic waste can't be disposed in the trash." That is why a roll-off is the normal answer for a remodel, a roof, a move-out or a construction site in Lakewood.

Placement and permits in Lakewood

On your own driveway we found no City permit or time limit for a temporary roll-off, but the City wants dumpsters on an improved all-weather surface — gravel, asphalt or concrete — and not on landscaping or grass (§8.14.025(D), §9.80.020(B)(5)). The street is different: a no-charge Public Way permit through eTRAKiT, "Only allowed if there is no suitable location on the private property", for up to 30 days unless extended (§8.14.028). On state highways such as West Colfax, Sheridan Boulevard and Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood requires a state and a city permit (§12.04.040(A)), and we found no CDOT permit path for a container. A flat, stable surface and boards or plywood under the dumpster help protect your driveway. The permit guide covers the other cities too.

Who may haul in Lakewood

Lakewood licenses waste haulers. Chapter 5.29, rewritten by Ordinance O-2026-30 and approved on August 24, 2026, makes it unlawful to operate as a waste hauler in the City without a licence (§5.29.040), defines solid waste to include construction and demolition debris and bulky items (§5.29.020), requires $3,000,000 in liability cover with the City as additional insured (§5.29.100), and bars collection between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. within 300 feet of a dwelling (§5.29.120). The City's list of licensed haulers has a roll-off services column, and the City says it is provided without endorsement.

Most cities around Lakewood license haulers too — Denver (DRMC 48-62), Edgewater (§6-8-20), Golden (§4.80.015), Arvada (§90-51), Westminster (§5-7-2, which names roll-offs), Englewood (EMC 5-26) and Sheridan (§22-217) — and we found no exclusive roll-off franchise anywhere we serve. Jefferson County has no hauler licence that we found. See the permit guide. We're licensed and insured.

Recycling plans and weight tickets

Lakewood's building code requires a construction waste management plan for new buildings, additions or remodels over 2,500 square feet, and a demolition waste management plan for any building demolition, with labeled containers on site for recyclable materials and hauler or recycling center receipts before the certificate of occupancy or final inspection (§14.02.040(J)). The City's required materials are asphalt, concrete, cardboard, untreated wood, metal and reusable architectural salvage, plans are filed in Green Halo, and applicable projects post a performance security deposit of $1 per square foot, up to $100,000. The City's applicant guide says to tell your hauler where you want materials taken and that you "need weight tickets for proof of recycling". Next door, Denver's recycling ordinance has applied since September 1, 2026: qualifying projects divert at least 50 percent by weight and upload weight tickets. If your permit needs weight tickets, tell us when you book.

Demolition and asbestos

Colorado's asbestos rules (Air Quality Control Commission Regulation 8) require the area to be "inspected for asbestos by a Colorado-certified asbestos inspector" before a demolition, and "A ten working-day notification period is required before the demolition can commence." The CDPHE demolition notice must be filed "even if no asbestos was found", homes included. In Lakewood, interior demolition and asbestos abatement is its own demolition permit type in eTRAKiT.

Disposal is the hard line: asbestos waste "must be disposed of at an approved asbestos waste disposal site, regardless of the quantity", and concrete or wood bonded or contaminated with asbestos-containing material cannot be recycled. Asbestos never goes in our roll-offs. The what-goes-in guide has the detail.

Where the loads go

Lakewood requires all garbage, trash and refuse to go to "a state approved sanitary landfill or an approved solid waste collection and transfer facility" (§8.14.040), and the hauler code requires a State or Federally approved site (§5.29.130). Every load is covered: Colorado law says no vehicle may be moved unless the load is "securely covered to prevent any of its load from blowing, dropping, sifting, leaking, or otherwise escaping", and trash or recyclables need a tarp or other cover (C.R.S. 42-4-1407); Lakewood mirrors it (§10.54.050) and adds that no truck may drop its load or litter on a City street (§9.30.020).

Whenever possible, we work with local Colorado facilities so materials such as metal, concrete, asphalt, cardboard and yard debris can be recycled.

Outside the city line

The rules change once you leave Lakewood. Edgewater (pop. 5,005) and Wheat Ridge (32,398) are right next door, Applewood (7,833) is an unincorporated community under County rules, and west Denver (715,522 citywide) has its own DOTI permit. To the west and north are Golden (20,399), Morrison (396), Arvada (124,402) and Westminster (116,317). To the south are Sheridan (6,105), Englewood (33,659), Bow Mar (853) and Littleton (45,652), plus the unincorporated Columbine (25,229) and Ken Caryl (33,811) communities, where many addresses say Littleton but the County sets the rules. We do not serve the separate Town of Columbine Valley. See the service area.

What goes in, what stays out

In: wood, drywall, tile and flooring, furniture and household junk, mattresses, yard debris such as branches and clippings, roofing materials like shingles, cardboard, small appliances, and concrete, dirt and brick in a weight-limited 10 or 15. Out, by Colorado law: electronic devices such as TVs, computers, monitors, laptops, tablets and printers (C.R.S. 25-17-303), car batteries and used oil (C.R.S. 30-20-1002, 30-20-1005) and waste tires (C.R.S. 30-20-1414). Out of our boxes as well: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, batteries of any kind and appliances containing refrigerants. The full guide says what to do with each instead.

Loading, pickup and booking

Spread materials evenly rather than loading everything at one end, break bulky pieces down, and keep debris below the top edge so the load can be covered and safely hauled. Keep the path clear for pickup. Need more time? Call and we can extend your rental for an additional fee, or swap a full box for an empty one. Near homes we plan drop-offs and pickups for Monday to Saturday in the daytime, in line with Lakewood's noise code (§9.52.130).

To book, call (720) 370-8548 — the phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Have the address, the material and a rough quantity ready, and call early in the day for the best chance of same-day delivery. We accept major credit and debit cards, and payment is processed at the time of booking to secure your delivery date.
