Residential Dumpster Rental across the west Denver metro
Homes around here vary enough that one container does not fit all of them. A short driveway on a tight lot wants a 10 or a 15 and a driver who takes it slowly; a bigger suburban lot may have room for a 20 — and an HOA with its own covenants. For most home projects in Lakewood, a 15 or 20 yard gives the best balance of capacity and space. The first thing we ask on the phone is what your driveway looks like.
Most residential jobs are one of three things: a cleanout (a garage, an attic, a basement, or a whole house before a move or downsizing), a remodel (kitchen, bath, flooring, roof), or the yard — landscaping, a tree coming down, storm cleanup. Each wants a different size and a different talk about weight. The size comparison covers the numbers, the home cleanout guide covers the planning, and the phone call covers your job.

What actually fills a residential container
Home cleanouts lead the way: furniture, mattresses, boxes, general household junk, the contents of a garage, attic or basement. Kitchen and bath remodels are next — cabinets, countertops, tile, drywall, flooring. Then the outdoor jobs: shingles off a roof, an old deck or fence, a landscaping redo, branches and soil, storm limbs.
Nobody else is coming for it. Lakewood does not contract with haulers on behalf of residents and does not provide trash service as a utility — residents set up collection with the hauler of their choosing, or through their HOA. We found no City bulky item pickup: the City says bulky items can be picked up for a fee by your waste hauler or a junk removal company, and that dumping bulky waste in city alleys or on private property is illegal. Code Enforcement does not allow outside storage of waste building materials, tires or indoor furniture either. That is what a residential roll-off is for.
Driveway placement, street rules and HOAs
In Lakewood the driveway comes first, and the code backs that up. Dumpsters belong on private property, on an improved all-weather surface such as gravel, asphalt or concrete paving, clear of vehicle and pedestrian travel and the sight triangle (§8.14.025(D)), and commercial-type dumpsters may not sit on landscaping or grass (§9.80.020(B)(5)). We found no Lakewood time limit for a roll-off on your own driveway. You can put boards or plywood under it for extra protection on a newer or decorative surface. The street is another matter: a temporary roll-off in the public right-of-way needs a no-charge Public Way permit before it is placed and may stay no more than 30 days unless the City extends it for due cause (§8.14.028), and the City's eTRAKiT permit sheet says street placement is only allowed if there is no suitable location on the private property. Without that, placing anything that obstructs a sidewalk, street or alley is unlawful (§9.62.010).
A few more things. On state highways — West Colfax (US-40), Sheridan Boulevard (SH-95), Wadsworth Boulevard (SH-121) and US-6 — work in the right-of-way needs a permit from the state and the City (§12.04.040(A)), and we found no CDOT permit path for a temporary container, so there the box stays on the property. HOA covenants can cover containers on your lot, so check yours before a longer rental. And the neighbors differ: Edgewater issues a police street permit for ten days and never allows dumpsters in alleys (§11-1-40), Wheat Ridge requires a Class D licence to occupy the public way with storage containers or trash receptacles (§21-21), and unincorporated Jefferson County — Applewood, Ken Caryl and most of Columbine — charges $50 for a container permit in the parking lane, never on arterials. Each town page says what that town's code asks for.

Residential dumpster rental — the Colorado specifics
Colorado keeps a short list of things out of its landfills, and a mixed roll-off load ends up at one. The state bars landfill disposal of electronic devices — computers, peripherals, printers, fax machines, DVD players and VCRs, and TVs, monitors, laptops, tablets and e-readers with screens over four inches (C.R.S. 25-17-302, 25-17-303). Land disposal of residentially generated lead-acid batteries and used oil is prohibited (C.R.S. 30-20-1002, 30-20-1005), so take batteries to a retailer or wholesaler, a secondary lead smelter, or a collection or recycling facility, and waste tires go only to a tire collector, processor, monofill or collection facility (C.R.S. 30-20-1414). Fridges, freezers and A/C units need their refrigerant recovered under federal EPA rules (40 CFR 82.155). We found no Colorado landfill ban on mattresses or other household appliances. Where the leftovers go instead: Rooney Road Recycling Center, 151 S. Rooney Rd, Golden, takes household hazardous waste by appointment on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for residents of Lakewood, unincorporated Jefferson County, Arvada, Edgewater, Golden, Lakeside, Morrison, Mountain View and Wheat Ridge — a $30 co-pay covers up to 75 pounds, and paint products, car batteries and motor oil are free. The what can and cannot go in guide covers the rest.

Answers
Residential Dumpster Rental — your questions answered
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We take care during placement to minimize any risk. For extra protection, you can place boards or plywood under the dumpster, especially on a newer or decorative driveway. Tell us before delivery if a surface worries you.
Can I put the dumpster on the street instead?
In Lakewood only with a no-charge Public Way permit from the City, applied for through eTRAKiT before the container is placed, and only if there is no suitable spot on your property; it can stay up to 30 days unless the City extends it (§8.14.028). On a state highway such as West Colfax, Sheridan Boulevard or Wadsworth Boulevard we found no CDOT permit path for a container at all. The driveway is always simpler.
Does my HOA have a say?
On the driveway, often yes. Covenants can cover containers on your lot, and we do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book, especially for a longer rental.
Can I put old appliances in the dumpster?
Small appliances, usually yes. Fridges, freezers and A/C units only once the refrigerant has been properly removed: federal EPA rules require the refrigerant to be recovered before disposal (40 CFR 82.155). Our junk removal crew can take appliances with proper preparation. Tell us about any appliance when you book.
How long can I keep the container?
Most rentals include a standard rental period, typically 3 to 7 days. If the job runs on, call and we can extend it for an additional fee. If you finish early, call and we pick it up early. We found no Lakewood time limit for a roll-off on your own driveway; on the street, the City's permit allows 30 days unless extended.
Do you serve outside Lakewood?
Yes — fourteen more cities and communities across the west Denver metro, from Edgewater, Wheat Ridge and Applewood to Golden, Arvada and Westminster, and south to Englewood, Littleton, Columbine and Ken Caryl. Each has its own page, and each says plainly what that city or county requires for a container in the street and who may haul. We are licensed and insured.
