Lakewood is where the trucks start. The yard on Kendall St is inside city limits: the US Census geocoder puts 1510 Kendall St in the City of Lakewood, Jefferson County, about a block off West Colfax. Delivery is same-day or next-day across the city, depending on availability — call early in the day for the best chance of same-day.

It is a city of 155,984 at the 2020 Census. The City says it does not contract with haulers on behalf of residents and does not provide trash service as a utility: residents, business owners and property managers set up their own collection with the hauler of their choosing. There is no City bulky pickup either — the City says bulky items can be picked up for a fee by your waste hauler or a junk removal company. A kitchen, a roof or a whole-house clean-out is roll-off work.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Lakewood

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • The yard is inside city limits — the Census geocoder places 1510 Kendall St in the City of Lakewood, Jefferson County. Kendall St is a local street; West Colfax (US-40) a block away is a state highway.
  • Open market for trash — the City runs no trash service, contracts no hauler for residents and points people to its list of licensed waste haulers, which it publishes without endorsement.
  • Keep it off the grass — dumpsters go on private property on an improved all-weather surface such as gravel, asphalt or concrete (§8.14.025(D)), and nothing may be parked on landscaping or grass (§9.80.020(B)(5)).
  • Construction & demolition recycling — new buildings, additions or remodels over 2,500 square feet, and any building demolition, need a waste management plan, labeled recycling containers on site and hauler or recycling-center receipts as proof (§14.02.040(J)). The City's applicant guide asks for weight tickets.
  • Quail Street Recycling Center — 1068 Quail St takes sorted cardboard, scrap metal, cans, paper, glass and plastic bottles. The City says recycling there is free and open to everyone; no trailers.
  • Household hazardous waste — Lakewood is one of the nine governments behind the Rooney Road Recycling Center, 151 S. Rooney Rd, Golden, open by appointment only on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

How we reach Lakewood

What comes out of Lakewood properties

Roofing jobs in 10s and 20s, remodels in 20s, landscaping and yard clean-ups in 15s and 20s, multi-room remodels and estate clean-outs in 30s, construction and major demolition in 30s and 40s, and a 10 or 15 for concrete, dirt and other heavy material — weight restrictions keep heavy loads in the smaller boxes. Do not load above the top edge; a level load travels safely and avoids additional charges. On a Lakewood building or demolition permit that needs a waste management plan, the City wants concrete, asphalt, metal, untreated wood and cardboard recycled and weight tickets uploaded within 60 days of permit closure — tell us when you book and ask us for the weight tickets.

Colorado decides what stays out of the container. Waste electronics — computers, monitors, printers, TVs, laptops and tablets — cannot be landfilled (C.R.S. 25-17-303), and neither can residentially generated lead-acid batteries (C.R.S. 30-20-1002) or used oil (C.R.S. 30-20-1005); take them to a retailer or recycler. Waste tires go only to a tire collector, processor or monofill (C.R.S. 30-20-1414). Fridges, freezers and A/C units need any remaining refrigerant recovered under federal EPA rules (40 CFR 82.155). No paint, solvents, fuel, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders, propane tanks, batteries, medical waste or asbestos. Lakewood households can book Rooney Road for paint, chemicals and the like: a $30 co-pay covers the first 75 pounds, and paint, car batteries and motor oil are free.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Lakewood

Who may haul — the rule that matters: Lakewood makes it unlawful to operate as a waste hauler in the city without a Waste Hauler License (Ch. 5.29, repealed and replaced by Ordinance O-2026-30 on 24 August 2026). The new chapter's definition of waste includes construction and demolition debris and bulky items such as appliances and furniture, and the City's licensed hauler list has a roll-off column. Contractors and landscapers hauling debris from their own work are exempt (§5.29.050). The City picks no hauler and grants no franchise. We're licensed and insured.

On your driveway: Lakewood wants dumpsters on private property, on an improved all-weather surface — gravel at least 3 inches deep, asphalt or concrete — clear of the sidewalk and the sight triangle (§8.14.025(D)), and never on grass or landscaping (§9.80.020(B)(5)). We found no Lakewood permit or time limit for a roll-off on your own driveway. Our crew confirms the spot with you at drop-off; boards or plywood under the container give a driveway extra protection.

In the street: a no-charge Public Way permit is required before a temporary roll-off goes in the public right-of-way, and it can stay no more than 30 days unless the City grants an extension for due cause (§8.14.028). The permit is the eTRAKiT type Public Way – Dumpster or Moving POD, which the City allows only if there is no suitable location on the private property. Permit Counter: 303-987-7500.

State highways: West Colfax (US-40), Sheridan Blvd (SH-95), Wadsworth Blvd (SH-121) and US-6 are state highways. Work in a state highway's public way needs a permit from the state and the City (§12.04.040(A)), and we found no CDOT permit path for a temporary container — so on those roads the container goes on private property.

Hours near homes: Lakewood bars loading or unloading trash trucks within 300 feet of a home on Sundays, six listed holidays and from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. (§9.52.130), and the new hauler chapter bars collection from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. near dwellings (§5.29.120). We book drop-offs and pickups near homes inside those limits.

Disposal and covered loads: Lakewood requires everything to go to a state-approved landfill or an approved transfer facility (§8.14.040). Loads must be covered or secured so nothing blows, drops, sifts or leaks (C.R.S. 42-4-1407; Lakewood §10.54.050).

Knocking something down: Colorado requires an inspection by a Colorado-certified asbestos inspector and a CDPHE demolition notice ten working days before any demolition starts, homes included, even if no asbestos is found (AQCC Regulation 8). In Lakewood, any building demolition also needs a demolition waste management plan at permit application (§14.02.040(J)). Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if the survey finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Lakewood

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. 1

Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the location, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. 2

We size it and quote it flat

You get one number that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. 3

    Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a hard surface rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, depending on availability. You do not need to be home.

  4. 4

    Load it on your schedule

Keep it below the top edge and keep the banned items out — paint and solvents, chemicals, oil and fuel, batteries, tires, propane tanks and gas cylinders, medical waste, asbestos, and TVs, computers and other electronics. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. 5

We haul it and dispose of it right

The load is covered or secured and goes to an approved facility, with metal, concrete, cardboard and yard debris recycled through local Colorado facilities whenever possible. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

No. The City says it does not contract with haulers on behalf of residents or provide trash service, and bulky items can be picked up for a fee by your waste hauler or a junk removal company.
