One thing to know up front: Lakewood leaves trash to the open market. The City does not contract with haulers or provide collection as a utility, and residents, business owners and property managers set up their own service with the hauler of their choosing. What the City does regulate is who may haul: anyone operating as a waste hauler in Lakewood needs a City Waste Hauler License (Ch. 5.29, rewritten by Ordinance O-2026-30 on August 24, 2026), the new definition of solid waste covers construction and demolition debris and bulky items, and the City's list of licensed haulers carries a roll-off column. We found no exclusive roll-off franchise in Lakewood or anywhere else we serve. Each town page states its own rule.

A retailer renovating a store, an office remodel or cleanout, a restaurant upgrade, a warehouse clearing pallets, packaging and shelving, a property manager with tenant turnovers or a property cleanup, a community or municipal cleanup project — these jobs make bulky debris in volume, and the 20, 30 and 40 yard containers exist for exactly that. Many contractors and property managers in Lakewood prefer a 20 or a 30 for most commercial projects. We work with Colorado facilities to recycle materials like metal, cardboard and concrete whenever possible.
Who may haul what is written into each code. Lakewood's new hauler chapter makes it unlawful to operate as a waste hauler in the city without a license (§5.29.040), requires $3,000,000 of liability insurance with the City named as additional insured (§5.29.100), and bars collection within 300 feet of a dwelling between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. (§5.29.120); a demolition or construction contractor or landscaper hauling waste incidental to their own work is exempt (§5.29.050). Denver requires a solid waste hauler licence to transport solid waste from the city (DRMC 48-62) and says solid waste includes construction and demolition debris. Englewood (EMC 5-26), Sheridan (§22-217), Westminster (§5-7-2), Edgewater (§6-8-20), Arvada (§90-51) and Golden (§4.80.015) license haulers too. Each town page states its rule plainly. Placement on commercial property
On a private lot, in a loading area or on a job site we place where the truck can reach and the crews can load. Lakewood wants commercial-type dumpsters on private property, on an improved all-weather surface such as gravel, asphalt or concrete, without interfering with vehicle or pedestrian travel or the sight triangle (§8.14.025(D)). A standing commercial trash dumpster in the right-of-way needs a Revocable License Agreement from the City (§12.19.020(A)); a temporary roll-off in the street needs a no-charge Public Way permit, only when there is no suitable spot on the property, for up to 30 days unless extended (§8.14.028). On state highways such as West Colfax, Sheridan Boulevard and Wadsworth Boulevard we found no CDOT permit path for a temporary container, so there the box stays on the lot. Near homes, Lakewood's noise code bars trash-truck loading and unloading on Sundays, six listed holidays and from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. (§9.52.130). We build that into the delivery plan.

Commercial dumpster rental — the local specifics
Lakewood rewrote its hauler rules this year. Ordinance O-2026-30, approved by City Council on August 24, 2026, replaced Chapter 5.29: solid waste now includes construction and demolition debris and bulky items such as appliances and furniture, a waste hauler is anyone providing routine collection for a fee, licenses issued before October 1, 2026 run until March 1, 2027 and then renew each year between January 1 and March 1 (§5.29.080), and licensees must use a state or federally approved disposal site (§5.29.130). The City's list of licensed haulers has a roll-off column and says it is provided without endorsement. The neighbors differ: Westminster's collector license names roll-off dumpsters for short-term construction and demolition projects (§5-7-8(C)) and costs $250 a year plus $250 per vehicle (§5-7-5); Edgewater licenses every refuse hauler, asks for a $25,000 bond and allows hauling only from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (§§6-8-20, 6-8-30, 6-8-50); Englewood's trash-hauling license covers construction supplies and materials (EMC 5-26); and Denver's solid waste hauler licence covers construction and demolition debris (DRMC 48-62). We found no hauler licence in unincorporated Jefferson County, Bow Mar or Littleton, or in the Wheat Ridge code. We tell you where your job stands before the truck leaves the yard.
